Finding housing solutions

My home town is in an affordable housing crisis. There are a few contributing factors. We all know there is a critical shortage of affordable houses to buy or rent in Australia. During COVID many people moved out of the city for tree and sea changes. Property investors sold or moved into their own holiday homes and rentals and locals have been squeezed out.

Denmark has a shortage of care, hospitality and other essential workers. A lack of rental properties has forced many to find work and accommodation elsewhere. The median house price in Denmark is $800,000. Eeek! This helps drive up rental values.

Denmark Futures is a locally-run Registered Charity formed in 2021 to create community-run local projects. They are currently working to buy 31 on the Terrace (pictured left) on behalf of the Denmark community so they can refurbish it and provide 10 one-bedroom, fully furnished units for local people.

Having a roof over your head is a basic human need. It distresses me that women over 50 are the most vulnerable demographic when it comes to homelessness. I have volunteered my graphic design skills to help. Click on the link to find out more.
